Pioneer Meadery in Mackay QLD Is very excited to be the first commercially registered Meadery in the Whitsundays area. Pioneer meadery have started off as a class “Micro Meadery” producing 220 liter batches. Our traditional meads will be solely barrel aged. The taste profile of our mead will depend on what the barrel gives us back. Once a barrel has been bottled there will never be a mead produced quite like it again. Pioneer Meadery have put its first Melomel (Strawberry) mead into a Maple syrup & Rye barrel for ageing. We are looking at producing a rich strawberry flavored mead with many botanical flavors coming through from the noted barrel. Very exciting.

With 2024 well under way, Pioneer Meadery’s aim is to still bring you the tastes of a variety of meads that we know you will enjoy but the big aim for Pioneer Meadery hopefully in the last quarter of 2024 is to open a Cellar Door where you can pop-in and sample all our meads under one roof. This will give everyone the opportunity to taste something that you may have never tried in one’s life. I get the question asked of me on a regular basis; What is Mead? and a fair question it is. Generally, I will answer with, it’s a honey wine made with honey and not grapes. Nonetheless, this is where the “Cellar Door” will help you understand the process. We can’t wait, very exciting times ahead.
