Our Story

Hi, we are Trevor & Jo, founders of Pioneer Meadery out of Mackay, North Queensland. The name of our Meadery comes from the beautiful Pioneer river that runs through this region along with the majestic Pioneer valley which supports and produces the natural ingredients used in our mead. In fact we are also the first Meadery in the Pioneer region which also lends itself to the saying ‘We are pioneers’.

Our mead-making journey began in mid to late 2022, filled with challenges from obtaining licenses to the endless sourcing of plant and equipment. What sets us apart is our micro-batching approach producing 225ltrs. We have recently bottled our first batch, a very limited-edition being a traditional sweet mead on charred French oak.

We use only locally sourced honey in our mead and organic fruits in our melomels which we will only be focusing on at this time as our primary meads, even though with start up of the Meadery we made the small batch of sweet mead on French Oak. Many flavours to come and be enjoyed.
